__Aren’t these orange trees beautiful? We think so!! However they are more than just fruit trees. They help protect the water supply, provide fresh air, and are a part of planning for future generations. They are food and a sustainable source of income that offer hope to families and communities.

These lovely trees are growing in one of Trees, Water & People’s nurseries in El Salvador and they are there because of you. Because you made the decision to change the way you buy and purchased a Project 7 pack of gum, bottled water, or canister of coffee. Trees, Water & People is just one of our “Save the Earth” partners, along with Plant with Purpose and Trees for the Future.

Already this year, through purchases of “Save the Earth” products 120,565 fruit trees have been planted around the globe. Pretty astounding, huh?!

We at Project 7 would like to shout a BIG “thanks” to all of you for simply buying gum, water, coffee, and t-shirts – these everyday purchases add up to huge impacts made all over the world in seven areas of need.

Take a look at our Impact Report for the first quarter of 2011 and the good you had a hand in doing…

When I reached out to chat with Sundy Goodnight (yes,"

When I reached out to chat with Sundy Goodnight (yes, that really is her name and she is as delightful as it sounds) to find out what Stop Child Trafficking Now (SCTNow) had been up to, I had no idea what to expect. What I got was an enthusiastic, dedicated woman who couldn’t wait to tell me what SCTNow has been doing.

“We’ve been so busy and so much has changed since 2008, “said Goodnight. “And, we couldn’t have done it without the $15,000 from Project 7. We are so grateful for the difference it made in the lives of so many children.”

Sundy, while we would love to take the credit, it is you and your volunteers who deserve the thanks. As a quick reminder, Stop Child Trafficking Now’s mission is to stop the demand of child trafficking, by infiltrating, investigating and bringing to justice child sex predators.

SCTNow was one of the smallest finalists in the Grand Giveaway group. But don’t let the word “small” fool you – they’ve been doing big things:

• 1,000 child predators identified

• Developed partnerships and alliances with 40 victim service agencies

• Launched pilot programs in six cities

• Launched and mobilized grassroots awareness and fundraising campaigns worldwide

• Held two successful Walk campaigns rallying thousands who raised money to fund operative teams. September 2011 will be their official Walk Month

• Raised more than $1,000,000 since 2008

While a $1,000,000 in funding may seem like a lot it barely scratches the surface of the estimated $12 billion annually child trafficking problem. It cost over $300,000 to launch their pilot program – just imagine what it costs to continue their mission and put operatives on the ground. Stop Child Trafficking Now is tirelessly trying to raise additional funds to put more Pilot programs in place. Most of SCTNow donations are $25 or less. In fact, Project 7’s $15,000 donation was one of the largest made to date.

SCTNow has made major strides in addressing the demand that drives child trafficking. So, you may be asking yourself how do I get involved? SCTNow provides a number of ways:

1. Tell a friend – the more people that know about the issues the more we can put a stop to them http://www.sctnow.org/evitemailer.aspx?parentnavigationid=0

2. Organize or participate in an SCTNow Walk http://sctnow.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.hom

3. Purchase a “Red with Love” shirt http://www.sctnow.org/contentpages.aspx?parentnavigationid=13309&viewcontentpageguid=8f74b9d7-ae3b-4398-bc5a-4f7452ef031d

4. Donate directly to SCTNow http://sctnow.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.donate

We are honored to know the people over at SCTNow and applaud the good work they have been doing. It’s been a crazy busy year for them and we can’t wait to hear more!

Heal the Sick Winner: Partners in Health

The 2010 earthquake"

Heal the Sick Winner: Partners in Health

The 2010 earthquake in Haiti was one of the most devastating natural disasters on record and our 2009 Grand Giveaway winner, Partners in Health (PIH), was on the frontlines of the recovery efforts. I connected with Amanda Schwartz to find out just what they had been up to.

“Providing health services is about more than supplying medical aid,” said Amanda. “It is about building infrastructure, providing education and forming partnerships that sustain real medical care in regions that need it so desperately.”

PIH models their efforts on five principles:

1. Providing integrated primary health care services

2. Addressing basic social and economic needs

3. Working through and with the public sector

4. Participating in a community-based and community–driven programs that builds local capacity

5. Developing partnerships to address the cycle of poverty and disease

During the Haitian recovery efforts, PIH not only provided necessary medical services but has begun to build a new teaching hospital outside of Port Au Prince to help the Ministry of Health rebuild the Haitian medical education system. The 16 million dollar project is the first of its kind in rural Haiti and will focus on the training and medical education of Haitian physicians and medical staff. This is in addition to the 13 clinics/hospitals/health posts PIH has rehabilitated or built in partnership with the Haitian Ministry of Health since 1987.

As if that wasn’t enough, PIH has also partnered with the Rwandan government and the Clinton Foundation to open a state-of-the-art hospital in Rwanda – bringing healthcare to a region of 500,000 where there was none before.

The hospital in Rwanda is more than just a medical center. It is a true sign of healing for the region. The hospital was constructed on the hill that was an army camp during the genocide there. I challenge you to find a more obvious sign of healing.

So, how can you get involved in furthering PIH’s efforts? They offer the following ways:

1. Donate directly to PIH - https://donate.pih.org/page/contribute/donate

On March 8, Project 7 spent the afternoon with a very special group of people at Mission Arlington for our monthly “7 Day” volunteer event. Mission Arlington is located in Arlington, Texas, a city which gets much more publicity and fame as being “home of the Dallas Cowboys” rather than a city that provides a tremendous service to their community through the help of Mission Arlington.

Mission Arlington just celebrated its 25th year of service, which speaks volumes for its dedication to helping others. As they spoke to us with their warm smiles and provided us with the details of our task that day, they made a statement that really resonated with us. That statement was ”we believe that God is up to something big in the world and more people than ever before are seeing the need and responding to His call to ³take church to the people.²

This means they don’t sit and wait for people to come to them. They go and seek and bring the word of God to others. They prepare supplies for those in need and take them where they are needed and they do an outstanding job not only providing resources for the community, but also by providing continued support to help better the lives of so many in need.

As we sorted through donated clothing to prepare boxes to be taken out to those in need, we observed the large amount of donated items, which is a very positive thing to see. However, the need for volunteers to help them continue running efficiently is greatly needed. Donated items are what allows them to continue this wonderful cause through resources, but it’s just as important to help them sort, organize and distribute.

Please visit www.missionarlington.org/contact/volunteers and volunteer today! And if you’re just itching to visit Cowboy stadium, it’s right up the street from Mission Arlington.
