16,540 weeks of education and counting
Up to date, Teach them Well products have provided 16,540 weeks of education for children in need. That’s incredible! To put this in perspective we would like to introduce you to one of our Teach Them Well partners who has been doing amazing work since 1993 through fighting poverty and HIV/AIDS in Africa by educating girls and empowering young women to become leaders of change. Everybody meet Camfed! Created and administered in partnership with poor rural communities in Ghana, Malawi, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, Camfed’s education programs have benefitted over 1.9 million children.
Contributions from Project 7’s Teach Them Well program go towards Camfed’s Safety Net Fund, which ensures that children from the poorest families do not drop out of primary school due to the inability to meet school-going costs. The Safety Net Fund helps provide these most disadvantaged children with school supplies, books, uniforms and other items necessary for them to attend school.
Gertrude (pictured), a student from Samfya District, Zambia, is one girl benefiting from the Safety Net Fund. Gertrude, whose mother died when she was quite young, lives with her father. Gertrude’s father cannot afford the cost of her school needs, putting her at risk of dropping out. Camfed helped provide Gertrude with a new school uniform, books, pens and pencils. Now Gertrude can concentrate on her studies worry-free and focus on achieving her goal of becoming a nurse.
