Meet the Intern: Kyle Lundquist
{One of the things we appreciate most about Kyle is that he's not afraid to get his hands...and his face for that matter....dirty.}
Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where are you from? Where did you go to school?
I grew up in San Jose, CA, and spent the first 18 years of my life there. After graduating from high school, I came down to Southern California to attend Biola University. I just recently graduated from Biola with a Business degree in Marketing and a minor in Biblical Studies.
What led you to apply for an internship at Project 7?
I recently returned from a 5-month trip to India, and while I was there I gained a new perspective on the problems that so many people face on a daily basis. I had heard much of poverty, starvation, dirty drinking water and injustice, but my time in India caused all those “things I had heard” to become a reality. I had faces and names to put on those people in pain – it made the issues very real. That experience in India heightened my desire to spend my life serving others, and so when my friend Atila (the old intern) told me about this opening, I saw it as an awesome opportunity to pursue my passion.
What has been the best thing about your internship so far?
The best part of the internship thus far has been having the opportunity to join a team of people who genuinely care about others. So many businesses simply measure success by looking at their profit margins, but the team at Project 7 is sincerely and seriously seeking to make a difference in the world by providing relief and care.
If you could be anywhere in five years, where would you want to be and what would you be doing?
That’s a really tough question for me to answer because I’m still learning so much about what my passions are and where God might be leading me in life. I love teaching, leading, dreaming and working with people, so who knows where that will all lead. Right now I am just excited to be working at Project 7, and eager to learn more. I love serving people in real and sustainable ways, and Project 7 is doing that in a fantastic way.
What is the craziest job you've ever had?
This was only a one-time job, but a friend and I were once hired to work as “private investigators”. There was a person who was illegally receiving workers compensation and working another job, and so we tracked them to prove the crime. I felt a lot like Jason Bourne.
Is there one of Project 7's 7 causes that stands out to you more than the others? Why?
All of Project 7’s causes excite me, but Teach Them Well stands out to me because I see education as a wonderful and necessary means of caring for people. Education provides a sustainable way for children to overcome poverty, live healthy lives and ultimately care for themselves, their families and their communities. Without education, it’s so easy for children to become stuck in poverty, illness or violence. So seeing Project 7’s pursuit to educate children really stands out to me.
What is your favorite Project 7 product?
I really love my Project 7 T-Shirt. It is so soft, and so comfy. I suggest buying 7 of them and wearing one each day of the week.
