Oh Yeah, Caribou went there!

Just when we think our partnership with Caribou can't get anymore amazing... they went there. That's right, Caribou has taken their level of commitment to community responsibility even further... they are going to conduct their own 7 day each month! Right on Caribou. In fact, they have already arranged for their first 7 day to take place next week. Caribou's support team members will be volunteering next Friday (8/7) at Feed My Starving Children, an organzation who ships meals to needy children in more than 60 countries around the world. From now on, not only will we report on our own 7 days, but we will include Caribou's each month as well. We hope that Caribou's efforts will influence some of you to go out and do something for someone else today. And don't forget to tell us about it on our Good Samaritan Page on our blog. Caribou Coffee - such a great partnership already. Good Coffee... Good People... Doing Good... It's all good. Don't forget to follow us on twitter at @project7... and Caribou too @caribou!

Cause-related marketing – getting in on the giving

It seems like everywhere we turn lately there is a new, corporate cause-related marketing effort being put out. And we couldn't be happier. We don't care what the reason, only that people are doing good for others and allowing you, the consumer, to participate and drive the success of these programs. Some of the more recent, or widely marketed, are things like Tide's Loads of Hope. Their marketing message is "Support our effort by purchasing yellow cap Tide. A portion of the proceeds* goes to help provide support for families affected by disasters. Because every now and then it’s nice to mix hope in with the normal load." Yes, Please! And while some companies are just getting into cause-related programs, some of the largest corporations in the world have been doing good for years. A perfect example is General Mills who for the last 50 years has has been giving back through their foundation and consumer programs like BoxTops4Education. Or our partner Caribou Coffee who, since their beginning in the 1990s, has been committed to multiple charitable efforts. These efforts include the construction of a medical clinic in El Paraíso, a village in the municipality of La Libertad. Together with a Guatemalan coffee exporter, Caribou Coffee funded the construction of the clinic. Up to that point, the nearest medical facility for people living in El Paraíso was a half-day's walk away. We urge any corporation, big or small, to give back to the communities in which they live and benefit from in whatever way possible. Also, if you, our beloved community members, know of any companies who have cause-related programs or other ways to give back, post a comment and let us all know about it! We want to spread the good word and support other companies that are, in their own ways, working to "change the score!" Don't forget to follow us on Twitter @Project7

Good is all around us. One P7 employees brush with change.

My name is Jeanne and I am one of the employees at Project 7. This is my story of a brush with change. This weekend I was on a tiny plane, at a tiny airport, waiting to return home from beautiful Glacier National Park. The plane was a puddle jumper and completely full. It was early and I was completely exhausted from all of the fun I had been having. I took my seat and soaked in my surroundings. Sitting across the row from me was an old cowboy, grizzled and worn. Having surveyed my situation and finding nothing of too much interest, I began to read my Outdoor Magazine. In a matter of moments, I was completely engrossed in the literary world of hiking, biking and all other things active. But then my ears picked up a conversation that peeked my interest and surprised me at the same time. From across the isle, this old cowboy was telling the young lady next to him why he was on the plane. He was headed to a small town in Mexico to install an irrigation system that would help bring much needed water to the villagers' crops which would help to feed the entire village. His enthusiasm was infectious and I listened as the woman he was talking to asked for more details. He explained that this was his tenth trip like this and that he had previously installed such systems all of the world for needy people... And, he was in his early 80s. The woman was surprised and said, "Wow, I could never do that." To which the man simply replied, "Of course you can, you just have to want to." I never expected that old cowboy to tell the story he did. Nor did I expect him to put so simply what I think I've been trying to grasp for so long - All it would take for the world to become a better place is for people to decide that they want it to be. Plain and simple. Somewhere out there, in a small town in Mexico, an old cowboy from Northern Montana is already doing his part... let's not let him do it alone. I challenge you, dear Project 7 community members, make the decision and help us to "Change the Score."
